The Role of Mutual Trust and the Rule of Law in Streamlining the Application of the European Arrest Warrant

Task Force
June 2023
Brussels

STREAM brought together the academic network of criminal justice experts in 14 EU Member States who have delivered national reports assessing the key issues and implementation challenges characterizing the European Arrest Warrant Framework Decision (EAW FD).

Selected STREAM national experts had the possibility to briefly present their main findings and to exchange views among them and with officials from the European institutions. The national reports examine the ways in which national judicial authorities are practically using and interpreting Luxembourg Court standards on the EAW FD, and the role and impacts of fundamental rights and the rule of law in upholding mutual trust in the EU principle of mutual recognition of national decisions.

The Task Force meeting also constituted a key occasion for presenting the cross country comparative research findings and the main policy recommendations which emerge from these.

The Task Force took place on 29 June 2023 (13:00 – 14:30, CET) at the premises of the European Parliament. It was closed-door by invitation-only. The meeting was offered in English and in Hybrid format.
